Hydrocarbon related infrastructure

Current hydrocarbon related infrastructure in Latvia comprises pipelines for oil, oil products and gas. A large amount of Russian oil/oil products is exported through the ports of Latvia. An oil pipeline crosses over from Russia to Latvia, terminating in Ventspils, from where Russian oil is exported. The present capacity of the oil terminal in Ventspils (see www.Ventspils.lv) is more than 30 million tons per year. Russian oil is also exported through the port of Riga.

Gas storage is important in the country’s gas supply sector, and Incukalns is a big underground gas storage established within the Cambrian sandstone reservoir, with a capacity of 4 billion m³. Gas transportation facilities incorporate a network of gas pipelines, connecting the Incukalns gas storage with Russia, Estonia and Lithuania.
